Session Abstract

IoT has been lauded as the rocket fuel atop the digital transformation fire. Market landscapes across industrial sectors are being redefined as new business models and competitive vectors spark and take off.  Coupled with todays alarming speed of business and technology change, the sense of urgency to take get in on the opportunity and innovation IoT represents has become deafening. We’ll examine how and why some surprising industrial sectors are leading in IoT adoption. We’ll glimpse the solution decisions they are making and discuss the ROI assumptions and early lessons learned in the field.

She’s a 2015 Silicon Valley Woman of Influence, a recognized Top 100 Wireless Technology Expert by Wireless World, one of Connected World’s Women of M2M, inventor, multidisciplinary entrepreneur, inventor of an IoT medical battery that runs on body temperature and a PhD in Physics from University of Sydney.

David Bartlett – CTO Aviation, GE
IoT Slam 2015 Virtual Internet of Things Conference - GEDave Bartlett is the Chief Technology Officer for GE Aviation. Dave provides strategic technology leadership and oversight for digital and analytics growth projects across all of Aviation, evaluating new technologies setting the technology vision and direction for the business. Prior to joining GE, Dave served as IBM’s Vice President of Smarter Physical Infrastructure and a key spokesperson for IBM’s “Smarter Planet.” Other roles have included IBM Vice President of Autonomic Computing and Director of IBM’s European Software Development.
Dave earned his MBA at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. He attended the Graduate School for Computer Science at the University of Minnesota, the Undergraduate School for Life Sciences at the State University of New York, and completed the Masters program for Project Management at George Washington University.

Sumer Johal – Founder and CEO at Agralogics

A seasoned technologist with nearly two decades of entrepreneurial experience, Sumer has held leadership positions across several high-growth companies around the US and the world – from Startup to Publicly held – across several industries. Prior to Agralogics, Sumer was the founder and CEO of bio-energy innovator, Agni Energy, leading the company from concept to commercialization in the US and India. The interest he developed in food and energy sustainability through technology began with his agricultural roots and is what continues to drive his work at Agralogics. Sumer holds a BS and MSE in Computer Science & Electrical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Jonathon Feit – CEO at Beyond Lucid
IoT Slam 2015 Virtual Internet of Things Conference -Beyond-LucidJonathon Feit is Co-Founder & Chief Executive Officer of Beyond Lucid Technologies. A widely published marketing expert focused on new media and the strategic use of information technology, Jonathon has presented to audiences that include the 2012 Morgenthaler Ventures DC to VC competition, Health 2.0, the mHealth Summit, the Skolkovo Foundation (Moscow), and Young Inventors International. In 2009 Jonathon was honored to serve as an MBA Intern in the White House Office of Management & Budget (Performance and Personnel Management division), where he helped spearhead the redesign and relaunch of USAJOBS.gov – the “Face of Federal Hiring.” Prior to BLT, Jonathon co-founded and published Citizen Culture, the world’s first all-digital print-form magazine [more…], and With This Ring, the first all-inclusive weddings magazine. From 2004-2008 he was the youngest member of the American Society of Magazine Editors, and in 2005 he became the youngest Faculty appointee in College of Communication at Boston University. He is a member of the National Press Club (USA), with an extensive consumer business and trade publications list that includes Forbes.com, BusinessWeek.com, Mediabistro.com, Advertising Age, 944 Los Angeles, EMS World, and The Health Care Blog. He was a finalist for the 2010 WPP Fellowship. Jonathon holds an MBA from Carnegie Mellon University’s Tepper School of Business, and a Combined BA/MA cum laude in “Psychology, Religion, and Conflict Negotiations” from Boston University. He earned graduate certificates in Mediation from the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution at the Pepperdine School of Law, and in Entrepreneurship Development from the MIT-Sloan School of Management.

Mark Orsborn, Director Internet of Things (IoT) at Salesforce 
IoT Slam 2015 Virtual Internet of Things Conference -salesforceMark currently leads the Salesforce IoT strategy across EMEA. His prior role at Salesforce was within their global business transformation group working with CxO’s at large strategic customers to re-imagine their future.
Over the last 18 years Mark has also held a number of operational and professional services technology roles at companies including CSC and 3M. He has consulted with clients in many industries including manufacturing, healthcare, utilities about how technology can enable business change. Mark holds a bachelor degree with honors in Aeronautical Engineering from Loughborough University in the UK.

Mark Thirman, VP M2M Americas at Vodafone
IoT Slam 2015 Virtual Internet of Things Conference - VodafoneMark has over 30 years of experience in executive, business development, and sales roles gathered in a broad range of telephony, infrastructure, networking, and computer companies. Currently at Vodafone, the world’s leading mobile operator, Mark works on key M2M partnerships and channels. At mobile platform provider, Illume Software as VP BusDev, he evangelized mobile safety issues with telcos, software providers, government and trade groups, and corporations and helped raise nearly $8M in VC funding. Previously, Mark was the founder/CEO of AirPrint Networks, an early stage mobile software company where approximately $4M in VC funding was raised. Mark’s prior positions include executive roles in business and market development at Pingtel Corp (acquired by Nortel)., GTE Internetworking (now Verizon), VideoServer, VTEL, PictureTel (now Polycom). Mark is the board chairman (emeritus) for AccesSportAmerica, a national non-profit that adapts and teaches high-challenge sports to children and adults with disabilities (www.accessportamerica.org). He is a frequent speaker on the topic of M2M/Connected Things and often lectures at MIT and Tufts.
