Accelerating Industrial Digitization with Secure Networks

With the rise of Industry 4.0 deployments, the deeper integration between IT, cloud, and industrial networks heightens the risk of cyber threats. Attack surfaces go unnoticed when there is a lack of complete visibility into the assets connected in the operational environments. In such a scenario, how can you ensure the continuity, resilience, and safety of the industrial operations? As a first step to protect industrial assets, OT teams must gain complete visibility into connected assets, traffic flows, and the overall OT security posture. Second, they must define and enforce the right cybersecurity policies. Finally, continued monitoring of the infrastructure’s health can help ensure business continuity, limit the spread of malware, and respond to any breaches early. The converged solution must be simple to operate at scale for both IT and OT. Extending IT security to OT can make it easier to manage risks and enforce security policies globally. Industrial security also faces higher risk when staff, contractors, or machine vendors must access OT assets, especially those that might be geographically distributed, for maintenance or monitoring. In these cases, a secure remote access methodology based on zero-trust network access (ZTNA) principles must be defined to guard against unauthorized access. ZTNA can help you move from all-or-nothing VPNs. Join this session in the IoT Grand Slam 2023 to dive into the solutions that can bring unprecedented scale and simplicity to industrial security. Speaker: With a Master of Technology in Networks and Networked Systems, Richa Daga is as technical as you can get. She...

Importance of Data integrity in Smart Cities and how it is accomplished

Session Abstract: This session highlights the need of data accuracy and security in smart city applications. There are different levels of security, at different levels of smart city infrastructure applications. Such as, at the inception (sensor level, where data is generated), the data need to be accurate, properly calibrated sensors should be used, complying with the environmental specifications. At the aggregation, control and SCADA level, the needs are different. And at servers or cloud level, the security needs are different. These layers also create a distinction between what we generally define as IT and OT layers. With data now being transferred from Edge directly to the cloud, many of these layers are now eliminated. During this session, the presenters will talk about the standards and approvals at sensor level, information security and anomaly detection when logging data into cloud and using AI to boost data integrity in smart cities. Speakers: Having worked in Product Marketing and Product Management roles at Siemens and Schneider Electric, Haroon Rashid joined the solution development and solution marketing at Phoenix Contact in 2011, as Industry Manager for Transportation infrastructure. Using cryptography and digital identity to drive trust in a world of deepfakes and zero trust

Session Abstract: A key factor for success in scaled evolution of IoT and Edge solutions is digital trust. Digital interactions with individuals, devices, datasets, and or disparate sources must be considered verified as originating from authorized sources to drive adoption and durable functionality. In this emerging model, TRUST = VALUE. Cyberattacks are increasingly threatening small & large businesses, hospitals, schools, and critical public infrastructure. In today’s world, reports of identity theft / information fraud & ransom attacks are commonplace. Smart video technology is causing deepfakes which makes us question what is real. Generative AI is nearly passing the Turing Test requiring novel schemes to prove authenticity of transactions. The architectural absence of authenticated digital identity in the Internet Protocol has finally caught up with us. We need a new a new architectural view of the Internet that adds a unique identity to every human, machine, and object of value so we can digitally operate in a decentralized metaverse. We are fortunate to have, as a guest speaker, Scott Perry, PrincipaI, Crypto, and Digital Trust Services at Schellman. Scott will explore the emerging Internet architecture adding digital identity and verifiable claims made by all actors on the Internet. He will explain how this technology is emerging globally but requires strong governance among jurisdictions and industry leaders to realize its visions of a trustable Internet. That governance requires accountability from traditional certification schemes such as SOC2, ISO, NIST, GDPR, HIPAA but will need broader global acceptance and trust to maximizes its vision....

Need for Operationalization Ecosystem for Effective IoT Management and Data Analytics

Session Abstract: Today, we are generating a staggering amount of data which is growing exponentially. Just having this data holds no value if it is not utilized properly. And to make the most out of it, we need to have a strong operationalization ecosystem. But at present, we are observing how several end-to-end data analytics pipeline installations lack effectiveness for managing the IoT devices, security of the data, communication, business applications, and analytical processes. IoT management, operational readiness, and well-defined business needs have a strong influence on the design and overall cost of an analytical architecture for generating automated decision-making. It is equally necessary to understand the various capabilities required to operationalize highly available, fault-tolerant, resilient, and scalable solutions. In this panel, we will discuss the need for building an operationalization ecosystem to address different edge-to-cloud capabilities, real-time event processing, compatibility of existing algorithms and protocols, integration of various tools and solutions, and leveraging cloud services to operate and manage IoT platforms and growing number of devices. Speakers: Dr. Divya Gupta brings over 11 years of experience in cloud computing, distributed systems, fault tolerance, big data analytics, technical consulting, and business collaborations. Divya is Senior Solutions Architect at SAS Global IoT Division. Her current work involves the integration of SAS Event Stream Processing in the cloud/on-premises platforms using Kubernetes and Containers, providing architecture solutions to customers to solve their business problems using various technology solutions and bridging the IoT edge to the clouds.
