Biography

Dr. Matthias Schmid is currently a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Automotive Engineering at Clemson University (International Center for Automotive Research – http://cuicar.com ). He received Ph.D. and Master’s degrees from the University at Buffalo in Aerospace Engineering, as well as undergraduate and graduate education at Darmstadt University of Technology (Germany) in Electrical Engineering, Business Administration, and Economics. Dr. Schmid is rooted in the automotive sector by having previously served in various executive roles at M. J. Schneider GmbH, Germany, his family’s automotive business. His research interests lie in the modeling of stochastic dynamic systems, estimation theory, sensor fusion, advanced control theory, and applied mathematics with current funding from federal, state, and industry sources. Dr. Schmid has received several awards in recognition of his work, including a Teaching Fellowship from UB, scholarships from the Ulderup Foundation and the German National Academic Foundation, and the Professor Emeritus Howard Strauss Memorial Award for Leadership in Excellence.
