Use of IoT in Law Enforcement to improve public safety
Session Abstract:
Today, law enforcement – Police, Sheriff, Correctional Officer’s are challenged with duties that have unprecedented before. Criminals are getting smarter and smarter and there is a growing need to outsmart the criminals before anything bad happens. Access to the right information at the right time to the right people is very key – as this could be a life or death situation. That is where IoT comes into play. In this session, we will explore how police body-worn cameras can play a role as an IoT device in providing critical information to the people who need it and how it can save lives and improve public safety for the citizens.

Akbar Farook is the CEO and founder of Global Justice Solutions, LLC – a company which provides innovative technology solutions to justice and public safety industry – Law Enforcement, Courts, Corrections, Probation, Prosecutor, etc. Akbar brings more than 15 years of experience working in the justice and public safety market. His main areas of focus are: building safer communities by providing right information to the right people at the right time and providing improved access to justice. He has a master’s degree in Computer Science from the George Washington University, Washington, DC and serves on several committees at the IJIS Institute. His team won the Grand Prize at the 2017 national US Justice Hackathon – CourtHack 2.0 (www.courthack.org). He is passionate about learning new technologies and applying them to justice and public safety.
