Internet of Things (IoT) will generate huge amounts of data and will make our lives much easier and simpler, but are the data centers ready to cope with this ever-increasing network demand?
To meet the dynamic data needs of 5G and IoT, fiber is the best choice because of its unlimited bandwidth potential. Fiber-optic infrastructure is used by the current 4G systems, but more fiber will be required to support widespread 5G. Its not just about the wireless technologies that will enable the 5G revolution, wireline and wireless network convergence is the key for its success.
Data centers should be prepared for the IoT era driven by 5G and enough bandwidth must be there to send data from the device to the data center, as well as between data centers. This is critically important for things such as autonomous vehicles, in which real time data is constantly received and analyzed to avoid collisions. Advances in the field of coherent optics have enabled data transmission at rates of 100G and beyond. With optical fibers immune to electromagnetic interference and supporting low latency and jitter, Fiber-To-The-X (FTTX) applications are the answer and have become the preferred medium to reach devices deeper into the network. The proposed session would be a presentation with end-user and enterprises as the target audience. The presentation will cover the 5G enhancements and use cases. It will highlight the optical fiber communication advantages and latest optical transport network technologies- OTUCn, eCPRI and others to be used at the mobile fronthaul, midhaul and backhaul network to achieve 5G use cases and enable IoT applications.
Embedded Software Engineer, Ciena
With a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering and a post graduate degree in Networking, Richa is as technical as you can get. She has a vast experience working in telecom and optical networking domain as a professional embedded software engineer at Ciena. She has also worked at Cisco Research and Development offshore center and had worked for development of products on SONET, OTN, ETHERNET technologies from scratch. She has worked in the data plane area for bring up of line cards, FPGAs and ASICs device drivers and has been a part of the customer response team handling live customer network issues on the deployed products.
She was the chairperson of IEEE Women in Engineering branch of her alma mater and headed/hosted various seminars, presentations and organized state/national events.
She has technical papers published in national conferences and has been conferred with the best orator award at many gatherings. She received an outstanding student volunteer award in Women in Engineering field in AGM-2011 by Delhi section of IEEE, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. Being an all-rounder, she believes in investing in knowledge and sharing with other women in tech via communities. Richa would like to take the opportunity to dispel the myths surrounding 5G. She would like to highlight the need of fiber for the success of 5G with the help of her professional and working knowledge in the telecom optical domain. Richa is based out of New Delhi, India.
