Sustainable irrigation harnessing the best of converged OT and IT at the Edge

Session Abstract:

This presentation will feature a live demo showing the power of using the “right tools for the task” to sustainably irrigate fields. New advances in PLC technology (traditionally from the OT realm) allow it to harness tools developed in the IT sphere to reliably monitor and control processes that reduce labor, allow for pumping during permissible conditions, and prevent over application of water leading to cost saving, sustainable outcomes. A combination of old-school ladder logic PLC programming, and new-school Node Red, RESTful API and Edge/Cloud are seamlessly integrated to elegantly solve the application need. Furthermore the groundwork is laid to benefit from Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence at the Edge in future phases.
