Panel Discussion – Are you aware and ready for the challenges around Security, Trust, and Privacy in IoT?
Security, trust, and privacy have been and should be every enterprise executive’s top-of-mind now than ever before because of the impact of Internet of Things (IoT) becoming the “Internet of Everything” in our world. There will be 20+ billion connected things to be deployed by 2020; and, according to Gartner, Worldwide IoT Security spending will reach $1.5 Billion in 2018, and will be expected to reach $3.1 billion in 2021.In this panel session, with the experts from Rignet, IBM, IOT World Labs, and Spirent, you will get actionable insights to see and address the security, trust and privacy challenges in IoT.
The panel will discuss the following points:
- What’s the difference between IT Security vs IoT Security?
- What are the current highest risk areas in the IoT ecosystem?
- How are security, trust, and privacy IoT issues addressed differently (or not) across industries?
- How to answer the Return on Security Investment (RoSI) in IoT questions?

Roxy helped enterprises, “Startups” and fast-growing companies succeed, cope and mitigate growing pain. A short list of companies Roxy had worked on projects with included Microsoft, Getty Images, ATI, SuperValu, Infocus, Providence, Xenon Arc and more. Roxy specialized in Enterprise Applications and Systems Integration including ERP, Logistics, Warehouse Integration, Continuous Process Improvement, End-to-end Software Development to Operation, Research and Development. Roxy is an active mentor on Everwise Mentorship Program. Roxy currently serves as the Area 53 Director, Pathways Ambassador and District 2 Toastmasters Speakers Bureau Chair 2017-2018 in Seattle, WA. Roxy holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from the University of Washington. Roxy, a Vietnamese-American, and her family came to the United States 1993 as Vietnam War Refugees.
Mr. Jeremy Bennington leads Spirent’s Media & Entertainment and Transportation corporate strategies bringing communication networks, GNSS positioning, security, automation, and virtualization together to solve vital needs in each industry. Prior to Spirent Jeremy ran a successful video analytics and test business, V-Factor, where they modeled the human video system to “watch” video quality in the world’s largest entertainment networks. Jeremy has also held various positions at Symmetricom, now Microsemi, to create new communication network technologies for the wireless, wireline, and cable TV industries. With roots in engineering, Jeremy leads multimillion dollar business to innovate new technologies, grow new business, and ensure customer success.
Mac Devine – IBM Fellow & Member of IoT Community Advisory Board has 27 years of experience with networking and virtualization. The first 7 of those years were spent in mainframe software development where he served as chief programmer for several VTAM releases. Mac then moved to mainframe software design where he served as chief designer for several Communications Server releases and lead the design work for Sysplex and SNA over IP networking (aka Enterprise Extender). Mac also serves on the faculty of the Cloud Computing Expo, Things Expo and IoT LinkedIN Community as well as the IBM executive Sponsor for MIT. Mac is a 1988 Clemson University graduate with a Masters of Science degree in Mathematical Sciences and now serves as its IBM executive Sponsor. Mac is married with 2 sons.
As Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) of RigNet, Keith Frederick brings over 25 years of experience in information security systems design and analysis. Keith specializes in the areas of cybersecurity engineering, risk management framework, and industrial control systems. Accomplished at developing technical, governance, and compliance aspects of information security with a focus on improved performance and reliability, Keith has delivered several enterprise level programs aligned with business objectives and risk management. Before RigNet, Keith served as CISO of the Computer Network Assurance Corporation and led a team of security professionals specializing in the development of comprehensive information security solutions for commercial organizations and the United States Department of Defense. Keith is the published author of “Authorizing Official Handbook for Risk Management Framework (RMF)” and “Independent Testing for Risk Management Framework (RMF): Assessment Test Plan (ATP),” as well as many industry trade publication articles.
