Enabling the Intelligent Edge in Manufacturing & Industrial IoT

Abstract:

SASManufacturing is undergoing a revolution as advanced connectivity with AIoT unleashes a new wave of innovation. The upheaval is not confined to the factory floor; business models are also in flux as manufacturers get new insights into how their products are used and repackage those products into services. Smart manufacturing is driving the manufacturing industry to modernize its software infrastructure. Whether you call it Industry 4.0 or the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), manufacturing is in the middle of a significant transformation. A successful transition to the next generation of manufacturing requires the adoption of new technologies that can integrate legacy systems with modern systems. These new technologies must enable insights and intelligence at the edge. Why? To truly digitally transform, manufacturing and industrial players must derive and leverage analytical insights in real time so that feedback loops are capable of positively influencing processes, people, and practices. The fact is, “the edge” is always on premises. Edge cloud based private networks, such as 5G, are the key enabler to building edge-native IoT solutions that can deliver targeted outcomes at mission critical speeds.
