Enabling Predictable Excellence – Can IOT Transform the Acute Care Setting?

Session Abstract:

Healthcare settings, despite the explosion of EHR use and advances in health information technology, remains notoriously inefficient, expensive, and prone to errors.  Digital transformation holds great promise for health and care, but many of the same operational problems present in the clinical environment for decades persist today.  Silos of clinical, financial, and operational systems neglect to connect through devices and data in a patient-centric manner.  Physicians and other clinicians experience burnout because their technology-enabled work tools fail to connect them to patients and families in a more meaningful way.  This session will provide several examples of how IOT in acute care can solve some of the most pervasive problems in acute care such as patient throughput, clinical workforce utilization, and the use of data to drive excellence in operations and clinical care.  Additionally, leadership at all levels of a health delivery organization should plan for a new set of core competencies, from the point of service (the bedside) to the boardroom, in order to fully realize the value that data stewardship and IOT can provide.
