BUILDING A SAFER WORLD WITH SMART TRANSPORTATION

Session Abstract:

What if…
The commute to work was a little bit faster and a little bit more efficient,
The alerts to hazardous situations on the roads were quick in real-time,
The road fatalities were zero.

These are things that we wish for every day to make our lives easier and simpler. And today, with intelligent transportation, we are close to making these dreams a reality. With the ever-evolving technology landscape, we are witnessing improved transportation in every form. Smart transportation uses new and emerging technologies realized by the proliferation of IoT devices and 5G enabling high-speed communication networks. Smart Transportation is also cost-effective, making better use of available resources, achieving lowered costs with preventative maintenance. Digitization of roadways helps to gain data insights to manage traffic, handle large volumes of traffic from connected vehicles and detect the exact area where the problem has occurred, enabling a safer world.

However, Smart Transportation cannot sustain itself without building an advanced communication infrastructure backbone required for the use of high-resolution pan-tilt-zoom video cameras, digital sensors, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning which results in a massive explosion in data. Packet-Optical solutions help support a wide range of devices that sense and optimize vehicular traffic flows, monitor weather and road conditions, and warn operators of dangers ahead. As autonomous vehicles evolve, network demands are bound to escalate, driving the need for modern, flexible, and scalable networks.

Let’s understand how fiber-optic technology solutions help bring the networks to a carrier-grade level and become an enabler for Smart Transportation. The proposed session will be a presentation with end-users and enterprises as the target audience and highlight the next-generation network to meet the requirements of current intelligent transportation system applications while ensuring capacity for future initiatives.
