Abstract:

IoT and Edge Predictions – What We See in the Next 5 Years

The edge is a place where the “things” (the “T” in IoT) reside, which contain valuable pent up data. As the things are connected, the data computed and analyzed, and action taken to control the things and the enterprise — the business and societal benefits can be astounding. There is much more to come in the future as confidence in edge/IoT solutions builds, experiences mount, and the technology advances. Hear leaders from Cisco, HPE, SAS, and Zebra offer their specific predictions, their reasoning, and the resulting outcomes that are in store for those adopt and deploy at the edge.

Speakers:

Jason Mann is responsible for growing IoT revenue and providing global focus, strategic direction and alignment across the SAS IoT analytics portfolio. He oversees the research and development, product management and marketing, and execution of the sell-through strategy across the portfolio. My job is to empower R&D teams to innovate and create the forward-looking solutions that enable customers to seize the opportunity inherent in IoT, solve specific business challenges and capitalize on the insights mined from the data,” said Mann. Prior to his current position, Mann served as Director of Product Management for Industry Solutions and the Internet of Things where he set the strategic IoT direction for SAS. He was also responsible for product management of the manufacturing and supply chain, retail, energy, and health and life sciences industry solutions. Prior to that, he served as Manufacturing Industry Strategist where he led the internal and external positioning of SAS’ distinctive competence and value to the manufacturing industry. Before joining SAS in 2003, Mann worked at Nortel Networks for 10 years where he led the multiyear design and implementation of global manufacturing operations and order management systems. Mann received a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from North Carolina State University.

Matt Bolick has worked in Technical Marketing at Cisco in RTP for the last 23 years running an obstacle course of technologies including SNA, ATM and Ethernet switching, Service Provider Aggregation, Metro Ethernet, Network Management and Enterprise Branch Architectures. He also worked on a wide variety of products no longer shipping including the Cisco 7500, 7200, Lightstream 1010, Catalyst 8540 & 5500, Cisco ASR, and Cisco ISRs before finally settling down for the last several years as a Technical Marketing Leader for the IoT group at Cisco working on Industrial switching, routing and wireless as well as other cool technologies like LoRaWAN and wireless mesh. Matt is also a father of 2 small kids (Sebastian is 5 and Moxie is 2) so he doesn’t get a lot of free time. When he does manage to escape you might be able to find him in the water or the sky. He’s both an avid SCUBA diver and private pilot; both places with lousy Wi-Fi.
