Enterprise IoT Engineering

Session Abstract:

IoT is complicated and 2 out of 3 IoT projects will fail. How can you not be trapped? This presentation introduces IoT Engineering (IoTE), defined as the practical application of a systematic, disciplined, quantifiable approach to the analysis, design, construction, operations, and maintenance of IoT solutions. IoTE is a holistic engineering framework focusing on 4 integral parts: Context, Application, ROI, and Lifecycle (CARL). We will walk through the concept and motivation of the CARL components and the subcomponents in each individual area. Then we will dive deep to the IoT Lifecycle model to cover the elements of Define, Design, Develop, and Deliver (4D) in the end-to-end process. Working examples will be discussed in great details to illustrate the pragmatic use of IoTE in real-world initiatives. In addition, we will delve into a case study, along with best practices and lessons learned in the enterprise implementations.

Tony Shan

Tony Shan is a renowned visionary and thought leader incubating and nurturing interdisciplinary practice and enablement of emerging technologies like IoT, big data, cloud and bots. He drives large-scale transformation and digitization of most complicated enterprise systems at various Fortune 500 companies. He initiates pragmatic innovation and leads optimized automation in consulting, such as one of the largest data lakes and most complex IoT gateways/hubs in the world. He serves as an editor/advisory board of journals, chair of events, and a judge in IT competitions. He speaks and organizes in numerous conferences, and authored hundreds of publications. As an intrapreneur/entrepreneur, he also founded several startups and user groups/forums.
