IoT Edge Computing and Smart Buildings

Session Abstract:

Smart Buildings are at the forefront of the Industrial Internet of Things. But creating a smart building is an extremely complicated task, requiring the connecting of hundreds and possibly thousands of components, devices, systems, and interfaces. Many hardware vendors are offering “smart” building components (elevators, HVAC, lighting, security, power etc.) creating a confusing marketplace of devices, capabilities, and systems that do not communicate with one another. In this article, we explain how Edge computing and a flexible IoT platform gather all of these disparate components together to create smart buildings and smart ecosystems. Via our real customer use cases, we explain why Edge computing is critical from both a security and resiliency standpoint. This innovative approach to smart building technology will help companies in the building space avoid vendor confusion and ensure success in creating the next generation of smart buildings and better experiences for the tenants, visitors, and building staff.
